Things to remember as you attend NCSD

Things to remember for the upcoming National Cancer Survivors Day event… June 3

— Come early to receive your T-shirt and wrist band (for lunch) before the walk. (Shirts and wrist bands available only to those who have been prepaid) There will be lots of people and the walk will begin promptly at 9:00.  Check-in will be open from 8:00 – 8:45.

 — Dress for the great outdoors! Shorts and good walking shoes are recommended for those doing the walk. Don’t forget the sunscreen, sunglasses and sun hat! There will also be some shade canopies available for the service, but more than likely there will not be room for everyone. The long range forecast for Sunday is calling for 70s and overcast conditions.  Pray that this holds true.

 — If you are planning to walk please consider bringing a sign identifying yourself or a loved one as a cancer survivor. People are also encouraged to bring signs to remember those who have succumbed to cancer. If you are pulling a kiddy wagon or pushing a wheel chair please consider decorating it for the occasion.

 — There will be a water station about mid way through the walk at Moose Park. Feel free to bring your own water if you desire. There will also be water and snacks available at the conclusion of the walk back at the church building.

— There will be no official child care for any portion of this event. Each parent or guardian will be responsible for the care of their own children. Unattended children will not be permitted on the church playground.

— Bring lawn chairs for the most comfortable seating. We will have some folding chairs available, but since these chairs tend to sink into the ground they will not be the best option.

— The outdoor worship service will start at 10:30. We will be recognizing the cancer survivors during the course of this service.

— Offering: participants will be given the opportunity to give their regular offering to LCOC and/or to the Hope Center. Two separate containers will be made available during the morning for these offerings. Checks to the Hope Center must be made out to LCOC with Hope Center in the memo.

— The meal will be served at the conclusion of the morning service. Lines will form at the playground entrance of the “Grove” (children’s wing). Survivors and their families will be encouraged to line up first followed by those who have purchased the Hope Center wrist bands. We are expecting to have enough food for everyone who shows up for the day, but we want to first serve those who registered in advance.

— If you are making deserts for the event they need to be brought to the church by 4:00 on Saturday (they can also be brought in on Friday between 8:00 – 2:30.)

All are welcome to join us for the walk and worship service. If you did not pre-register for lunch, you are welcome to pack a picnic lunch and join us for lunch as well.
